Sharm el sheikh: The Peace Summit began on Monday in the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump, with the participation of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The gathering drew significant attention as it brought together heads of state and leaders from 30 countries to address the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip and broader Middle East peace efforts.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the summit's primary objectives include finding viable solutions to end the war in the Gaza Strip, discussing strategies for regional peace and stability, and planning post-war reconstruction efforts. Notable attendees include UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, European Council President Ant³nio Costa, King Abdullah II of Jordan, French President Emmanuel Macron, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, among others.
During the summit, President Sisi extended a warm welcome to President Trump and other international delegates, highlighting the pivotal role of the U.S. President in achieving peace. He also underscored the importance of facilitating humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and returning the remains of Israeli abductees to their families.
President Trump acknowledged Egypt's significant contribution to ending the conflict in Gaza, commending President Sisi's leadership. He emphasized that phase two of his ceasefire plan is underway, pointing out the need for a substantial cleanup and improvement of the humanitarian conditions in Gaza. The U.S. President reiterated the critical role of Egypt in fostering regional stability and peace, calling for strengthened collaborative efforts to ease the humanitarian situation and rebuild the affected areas in Gaza.
