Moscow: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called on Monday for the establishment of a Palestinian state following US President Donald Trump's summit on 'ending Gaza's war'. Speaking during a meeting with Arab journalists in Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov stated: 'It will be necessary to move on to the creation of a Palestinian state.'
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Lavrov emphasized that a long-term resolution to the conflict is only possible if UN resolutions on Palestinian statehood are implemented. He highlighted that the establishment of a Palestinian state is a crucial step towards achieving lasting peace in the region.
Lavrov added that Trump and regional leaders should prioritize "the agreed-upon withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, the establishment of humanitarian aid, and the restoration of this beautiful place on Earth." He noted that Moscow will "facilitate in every possible way" the implementation of Trump's plan and warned against attempts to alter its "fragile formulations."
The Russian foreign minister's comments came in the wake of heightened international focus on the Middle East, with efforts aimed at addressing the long-standing conflict between Israel and Palestine. Lavrov's call for adherence to UN resolutions underscores the importance Russia places on multilateral approaches to conflict resolution in the region.
