Jerusalem: Israeli occupation authorities have converted a former school run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Shu'fat refugee camp in occupied Jerusalem into a school administered by Israel's Education Ministry and the Jerusalem municipality.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Israeli Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem Aryeh King posted a video documenting the removal and destruction of UNRWA signs from the school building. King stated that the move aims to "erase any trace or memory of UNRWA" and permanently remove the agency from Jerusalem.
In May 2025, Israeli authorities closed six UNRWA schools in Jerusalem, which resulted in approximately 800 Palestinian children losing access to education. This decision followed the Israeli Knesset's legislation passed in October 2024, which banned UNRWA's activities in Israel.
