Nablus: GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi has denounced the recent burning of a mosque in the village of Kur, located in the Tulkarm governorate, by Israeli colonists. The incident also involved the spray-painting of racist slogans on the mosque's walls.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, AlBudaiwi labeled the attack as a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law. He emphasized that it represents a serious breach of international conventions that protect religious sites and freedom of worship. AlBudaiwi further noted that the attack provokes Muslims worldwide.
AlBudaiwi asserted that the assault is part of an ongoing pattern of violations against the Palestinian people and their sacred sites. He held Israeli forces fully accountable for the attack and the repeated assaults by colonists. He warned that the continued protection of, and failure to act against, such attacks fosters impunity and contributes to an escalation that jeopardizes regional security and stability.
He urged the international community, including the United Nations Security Council and human rights and humanitarian organizations, to meet their legal and moral obligations by urgently acting to halt the violations. He called for accountability for those responsible and international protection for the Palestinian people and their holy sites.
AlBudaiwi concluded by stating that ongoing international silence over such attacks promotes their recurrence and undermines the prospects for peace and security in the region.
