Jerusalem:Yasser Abbas, a Fatah Central Committee Member, has issued a strong warning that the Israeli occupation authorities' policies of Judaizing Jerusalem violate the sanctity of Christian and Muslim holy sites. Abbas, who also acts as Commissioner-General for Foreign Relations, highlighted these concerns in an urgent political appeal to political leaders and forces across the Arab world and beyond.
According to Palestine news and Information Agency, Abbas emphasized that the systematic policies pursued by Israel, aimed at altering Jerusalem's Arab, Islamic, and Christian identity, pose a serious threat to the city's historical and religious status. He also cited repeated incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound as violations of the sanctity of holy sites and the rights of Palestinians.
Abbas noted an increase in attacks by colonists on Palestinian villages and farmers during the olive harvest season, which include the theft of olive crops and assaults on activists and journalists. These actions are reportedly occurring under the protection of Israeli forces, who are also accused of uprooting olive trees and seizing land.
The Commissioner-General further expressed concerns about the humanitarian conditions in Gaza, where Palestinians continue to face harsh circumstances despite a ceasefire being in place for a year. He urged political parties worldwide to support Jerusalem's historic status and to oppose efforts to Judaize the city.
Abbas called for international pressure to halt Israel's settlement expansions and to hold accountable those responsible for violations. He also stressed the importance of supporting humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts in Gaza and emphasized the need to protect Palestinian rights and identity in Jerusalem.
