UN Committee on Palestinian Rights Delegation Visits Cuba to Rally International Support

Havana: A delegation from the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, chaired by the Senegalese Ambassador and President of the Committee, visited the Republic of Cuba as part of the Committee's international efforts to support the Palestinian people and mobilize global backing, marking the 50th anniversary of the Committee's establishment.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the delegation included representatives from several countries holding positions as members of the Committee's Bureau, including Namibia's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Neville Melvin Gertze; Nicaragua's Alternate Permanent Representative to the UN, Jaime Hermida Castillo; Cuba's Alternate Permanent Representative to the UN, Ernesto Sober³n Guzm¡n; and the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the UN, Ambassador Riyad Mansour. Representatives from the UN Secretariat's Division for Palestinian Rights were also part of the delegation.

During the visit, the delegation held a meeting in Havana with Cuban President Miguel D­az-Canel, in the presence of Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodr­guez Parrilla and other Cuban officials, at the Palace of the Revolution. The Palestinian Ambassador to Cuba, Ammar Zorba, also participated in the meeting.

The discussions centered on international efforts to maintain the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, support reconstruction, halt the Israeli occupation government's settlement policies in the West Bank, and stop actions undermining the two-state solution. The delegation also explored ways to implement the New York Declaration on the two-state solution.

The delegation expressed appreciation for Cuba's support for the Palestinian people's rights and its contribution to enhancing UN efforts for justice and peace. President D­az reaffirmed Cuba's commitment to supporting the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and ongoing cooperation with the Committee and the UN for a just and comprehensive solution, ending the occupation, and establishing an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders.
