Washington:The U.S. Senate has blocked a resolution that sought an investigation into the deaths of Palestinian-American citizens allegedly caused by Israeli forces and settlers in the occupied West Bank. The motion failed with 47 senators voting in favor and 51 against.
According to Palestine News & Information Agency - WAFA - English, the proposed measure aimed to advance S.Res. 852 from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for further consideration. It called for President Donald Trump's administration to submit a report within 30 days detailing Israel's human rights practices, including the deaths of nine identified Palestinian-American citizens and the detention of Palestinian children in Israeli prisons.
Amnesty International USA had advocated for senators to support the resolution, pressing for accountability in the cases of the nine deceased U.S. citizens. The organization listed the victims as Omar Assad, Shireen Abu Akleh, Tawfic Abdel Jabbar, Mohammad Khdour, Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, Amer Rabee, Khamis Iyad, Sayfollah Musallet, and Nasrallah Mohammad Jamal Abu Siam, noting that no one has been held accountable to date.
