Cairo: Tunisia has assumed the Chairmanship of the Council of the League of Arab States at the Ministerial Level, a significant role taken up by Mr. Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad. He chaired the 166th session of the council, emphasizing Tunisia's commitment to fostering Arab solidarity and addressing regional issues.
According to African Press Organization, Minister Nafti outlined the pressing challenges facing the Arab region, underlining Tunisia's national responsibility to unify positions and enhance joint Arab actions. He reiterated Tunisia's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, in line with President Kas Saed's guidance.
The Minister condemned attacks on Syrian and Lebanese territories, expressing solidarity with these nations and advocating for their sovereignty. He also supported a Libyan-led solution to ensure Libya's unity and voiced solidarity with Sudan and Yemen in their quest for stability. Nafti emphasized supporting Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, and Iraq against violations of their sovereignty.
Minister Nafti called for improved coordination among Arab states to tackle security threats, stressing the need for early-warning mechanisms and adherence to Arab decisions. He highlighted Tunisia's role in implementing Arab strategies, noting its hosting of the Arab High-Level Preparatory Meeting for the Second World Summit for Social Development in 2025 and its recognition with the Arab Government Excellence Award in education.
Further, he mentioned Tunisia's leadership in the Arab Board of Health Specializations and its designation as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2027, a testament to Tunisia's rich cultural heritage. The designation is seen as a means to enhance tourism and cultural cooperation among Arab nations.
In his concluding remarks, Minister Nafti expressed Tunisia's dedication to advancing joint Arab action with the League of Arab States, aiming to enhance the league's effectiveness in addressing regional challenges and meeting the aspirations of Arab peoples.
The participating Arab delegations commended Tunisia's leadership and expressed confidence in its Chairmanship, hopeful that it would foster dialogue, unity, and consultation among member states. On the sidelines, Nafti engaged with Arab counterparts to discuss bilateral relations and future cooperation.
