Washington: US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order withdrawing the United States from 66 international organizations, including 31 United Nations agencies. In a statement released Wednesday evening, the White House indicated that Trump had formalized the decision to exit these bodies, asserting that they "no longer serve US interests."
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the decision to withdraw was based on the assessment that "these international organizations act in ways that are contrary to US national interests." However, the statement did not disclose the specific organizations affected by this withdrawal.
In the early days of his second presidential term, which commenced on January 20, 2025, President Trump had already taken significant steps in redefining the country's foreign policy. These included withdrawing the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement and the UN Human Rights Council, as well as halting funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
