Gaza - Ma'an - The Gaza Municipality confirmed that the amount of water it has pumped since the start of the Israeli aggression is equivalent to a third of the city's water needs due to the bombing, the cessation of water pumping from the "Makorot" line on the Israeli side, the seawater desalination plant, the power outage, and the depletion of fuel needed to operate the wells.
The damage to about 12 wells from the Israeli bombing contributed to a severe and significant water shortage in Gaza City, according to the Gaza Municipality Emergency Committee.
She explained that the amount pumped is estimated at about 1,200,000, which is not enough to meet the city’s minimum needs.
Large areas of Gaza City witnessed a state of thirst and a severe water shortage as a result of the Israeli bombing.
The committee called on international and humanitarian organizations to intervene urgently and provide the fuel and electricity necessary to operate the wells to meet the city’s water needs.
The committee pointed out that providing water is a humanitarian service guaranteed by international humanitarian law, and humanitarian and civil services must be spared from being targeted by the occupation.
It is noteworthy that the Gaza municipality was pumping about 3 million cups of water monthly, before the start of the Israeli aggression attack.
A 25% saving is made of 700 thousand cups per day from the Israeli “Makorot” line. 10% is also provided from the desalination plant, while about 2 million and 200 thousand cups are provided from local wells in the city.
