Rabat: A high-level discussion panel titled 'Jerusalem: A Global Narrative for Peace' opened on Monday in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, with the participation of the general supervisor of official Palestinian media, Minister Ahmad Assaf, Moroccan Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, and several official, diplomatic and media figures. According to Palestine news and Information Agency, Minister Assaf emphasized that Palestine's involvement in the forum reflects growing Arab and international interest in Jerusalem. This participation aligns with Rabat's designation as the Capital of Arab Media for 2026, underscoring the centrality of the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem in Arab and international discourse. Minister Assaf highlighted that Jerusalem is integral to the conflict and symbolizes Palestinian national identity. He stated that a just resolution to the Jerusalem issue is essential for peace, emphasizing the importance of a strong media narrative that addresses global publ ic opinion effectively. He underscored the role of media in presenting accurate developments in Jerusalem and Gaza, promoting international awareness of the ground realities. Assaf affirmed that Jerusalem should remain a focus for responsible media committed to truth, freedom, justice, and peace. Assaf also noted Jerusalem's diverse religious and cultural history, representing a model of human coexistence. He reiterated that international law and UN resolutions recognize Jerusalem as occupied, rejecting any unilateral measures altering its status or character. He stressed that Jerusalem's final-status must be resolved through fair negotiations based on international legitimacy and Palestinian rights, highlighting Israel's actions in Gaza and Jerusalem as attempts to alter facts on the ground. Assaf pointed out restrictions on holy sites like Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, calling for international action to protect Jerusalem's identity and freedom of worship. He expressed gratitude to Morocco, King Mohammed VI, and the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency for supporting the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem, acknowledging the agency's efforts in preserving Jerusalem's identity and resilience. Moroccan Minister Bensaid stated that hosting the forum reflects Jerusalem's significance in Moroccan conscience. He stressed the need for Arab cooperation in media to counter misinformation and promote a balanced narrative on Jerusalem. Bensaid affirmed Jerusalem's unifying role for Arab and Islamic nations, praising Morocco's ongoing efforts under King Mohammed VI's leadership to support Jerusalemites and preserve the city's holy sites and identity.
