Madrid: Spain on Sunday condemned the siege imposed by Israeli colonists on Palestinian families in Qusra, south of Nablus, and called for an end to acts of violence and intimidation against Palestinian citizens and to the impunity enjoyed by those responsible.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement emphasizing that Palestinian civilians living under occupation must be protected in accordance with international humanitarian law and that perpetrators of violence must be held accountable. The statement also urged an end to all colonial activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, describing them as contrary to international law.
Madrid reiterated its firm commitment to implementing the two-state solution, which envisions Palestine and Israel living side by side in peace and security. It asserted that the two-state solution is the only path toward a just, sustainable, and lasting peace in the region.
Israeli colonists began besieging Palestinian homes in Qusra early last week. They blocked roads with stones, erected a tent nearby, and prevented medical teams and foreign activists from reaching the besieged families. The Abd al-Salam and Abu Rida families have issued an urgent appeal to international and humanitarian organizations to intervene and lift the siege, amid more than four months of continued colonist attacks in the area and attempts to establish a colonial outpost near their homes.
According to the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, Israeli colonists carried out 3,488 attacks against Palestinian villages, towns, residents, and property during the first half of 2026. The attacks included assaults and shootings, arson attacks on homes, attacks on roads and vehicles, the establishment of colonial outposts, and the seizure of Palestinian land. The commission reported that 17 Palestinians were killed by colonists in the West Bank during this period, while 42 new colonial outposts were established and 4,379 dunums of Palestinian land were seized.
