Riyadh: Saudi Arabia announced that six ballistic missiles were fired toward the Riyadh region, marking a significant escalation in regional hostilities.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Saudi Defense Ministry reported that two of the missiles were successfully intercepted, while the remaining four landed in the Gulf waters and uninhabited areas. The ministry shared this information through a statement on the US social media platform X. In a related incident, the ministry also disclosed that three drones were intercepted and destroyed-one over Riyadh and two over the Eastern Province. The ministry did not provide further details concerning casualties or specific locations affected by these incidents.
The latest developments come amid heightened tensions following a joint offensive by the US and Israel against Iran on February 28, which resulted in the death of over 1,340 people, including the then-Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. In response, Tehran has launched multiple drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and other countries in the region, including Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations that host US military forces. These retaliatory strikes have led to casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions in global markets and aviation.
