Ankara: Hussein al-Sheikh, Secretary-General of the PLO Executive Committee, met Wednesday with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara. The meeting focused on political developments concerning the Palestinian arena and strategies to halt the conflict in the Gaza Strip while emphasizing the importance of maintaining the ceasefire.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, al-Sheikh updated Fidan on the Palestinian leadership’s initiatives to relieve the suffering in Gaza. He highlighted the ongoing breaches of the ceasefire by Israel, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians within a 24-hour period. Al-Sheikh expressed appreciation for Turkey’s supportive stance on the Palestinian issue in international forums.
The Turkish Foreign Minister reaffirmed Turkey’s support for the formation of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
