Jenin: Palestinian prisoner Hana Mohammad Mohi al-Din Tahaina, aged 48, from Jenin, has recounted the details of her detention and the conditions of her detention in Damon Prison, emphasizing she was denied the chance to bid farewell to her six children when Israeli forces raided her home.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission reported that Tahaina was detained on June 8, 2026, and placed under administrative detention. This marks her first imprisonment experience, although she had previously endured the hardships of detention as the wife of former prisoner Sharif Tahaina, who spent 10 years in Israeli prisons.
Tahaina's testimony to the Commission's lawyer reveals that Israeli forces stormed her home around 3:00 AM, searched it, and detained her. Soldiers handcuffed her with plastic ties, blindfolded her, and forced her to walk a considerable distance, despite the availability of military vehicles that could have reached her home's vicinity.
She described being kept for hours in a small, warehouse-like room, handcuffed and blindfolded, and denied access to the toilet. During her transfer to Sharon Prison, she faced shouting and insults when she attempted to slightly adjust her blindfold. Upon her arrival at the prison, she endured a strip search, beatings, humiliation, and harsh treatment.
The Commission stated that Tahaina was subsequently transferred to Damon Prison, where she remains detained and suffers from several chronic conditions, including migraines, rheumatism, irritable bowel syndrome, and painful varicose veins. The prison administration has reportedly refused to provide her with pain medication.
The Commission also highlighted the difficult conditions faced by female prisoners in Damon Prison, including a lack of basic necessities such as food, clothing, and feminine hygiene products. It noted ongoing repression and searches, and the practice of forcing female prisoners into the prison yards during intense heat, accompanied by verbal abuse and insults.
