Ramallah: President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, received a telephone call on Wednesday evening from the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territory, and Chairman of the Supreme Fatwa Council, Sheikh Mohammad Hussein, who congratulated him on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr. The Grand Mufti extended his wishes for the President's continued health and well-being and expressed hopes for goodness, guidance, honor, and empowerment for the nation. He also wished for the occasion to return to the Palestinian people with Palestine liberated from occupation.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas expressed his gratitude to the Grand Mufti for his Eid al-Fitr greetings and took the opportunity to inquire about the conditions of Palestinians in Jerusalem, who continue to endure ongoing assaults by the occupation authorities. The President praised their resilience against occupation practices.
President Abbas conveyed his hope that the occasion of Eid al-Fitr would bring the fulfillment of the Palestinian people's aspirations for freedom, independence, and the establishment of a sovereign state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem also announced that Thursday will mark the completion of the month of Ramadan, making Friday the first day of Eid al-Fitr.
