Gaza: The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has reported 108 documented attacks by Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian journalists and media workers during the month of July 2026.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Syndicate's Freedoms Committee detailed these violations in a statement released Sunday evening. The attacks included incidents of detention, beatings, interrogation, obstruction of journalistic work, and the use of stun grenades and tear gas. Additionally, there were assaults by colonists, raids on homes and media institutions, and the seizure and destruction of journalistic equipment.
The documentation highlighted that 58 cases involved brief detentions and restrictions on reporting, making these the most frequently recorded violations. There were 11 documented attacks by colonists, which involved physical assaults, threats, and attempts to prevent journalists from working, especially during coverage of events in the West Bank.
The report also noted 12 incidents where Israeli forces targeted journalists with stun grenades and tear gas, leading to suffocation in some cases. Physical assaults were reported in six instances, and four journalists sustained bleeding injuries from shrapnel during their coverage of events in the Gaza Strip.
In terms of detentions, two journalists were held, and four were interrogated concerning their journalistic activities. Raids on homes and media outlets were documented in four cases, which sometimes involved searches and tampering with contents. Equipment seizure and destruction were recorded in three cases, and video footage was deleted in two instances.
The report further noted two cases where journalists were expelled from Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Freedoms Committee emphasized that these attacks were multifaceted, involving various violations that hinder journalists from performing their duties.
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate urged the protection of journalists, advocating for their right to work without threats and attacks. They called for accountability for those responsible for these violations, stressing the importance of upholding journalistic freedom and public access to information.
