Palestinian Citizen of Israel Seriously Wounded in Sakhnin Shooting

Sakhnin:A Palestinian citizen of Israel in his 30s was seriously injured in a shooting on Friday afternoon in Sakhnin, a city located in northern Israel.

According to Palestine news & Information Agency, this incident adds to the mounting death toll among Palestinian citizens of Israel, with 163 fatalities reported since the beginning of 2026. The rise in violence comes amidst an ongoing spread of organized crime and increasing feelings of insecurity within these communities.

The situation has deteriorated since 2025, a year marked by 252 deaths in 218 separate incidents, as noted by the Abraham Initiatives, an NGO monitoring violence among Palestinian citizens of Israel. In response, Palestinian citizens have staged protests in predominantly Palestinian towns and villages, criticizing Israeli police for alleged complicity and inadequate protection.

Over the past decade, the number of deaths has surged roughly fourfold. Palestinians are voicing demands that extend beyond addressing organized crime, accusing the Israeli government and law enforcement of neglecting their communities and, at times, fostering conditions that allow violence to proliferate.

The escalation of killings has persisted since National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, known for previous convictions related to incitement to racism against Arabs, assumed office in 2023.
