Oman Rejects Proposals to Forcibly Displace Palestinians

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman Wednesday affirmed its firm rejection of all proposals to forcibly displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. The Foreign Ministry of Oman stated Oman’s unwavering stance against any attempts to relocate the Palestinian population from Gaza and the occupied territories, emphasizing the importance of respecting the Palestinian people’s rights to establish an independent state on their national soil.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Oman’s Foreign Ministry warned that any proposals for the forcible transfer of Palestinians represent a blatant violation of international law and United Nations resolutions. Such actions pose a threat to regional security and stability. Oman urged the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in protecting Palestinian rights and highlighted the need for a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, grounded in UN resolutions, international law, and the Arab Peace Initiative. This solution should guarantee the establishment of an independent Palestinian State based on the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

US President Donald Trump proposed forcibly displacing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and taking over the enclave, which has been under Israeli assault since October 2023. Trump stated during a press conference in Washington with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the US plans to relocate Palestinians under a redevelopment plan, aiming to transform the enclave into ‘the Riviera of the Middle East.’

Trump’s proposal followed a ceasefire agreement in Gaza on January 19, which temporarily paused Israel’s assault on the enclave. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of over 47,500 Palestinians and injured more than 111,000, as reported by the Palestinian Health Ministry.
