Rio de Janeiro: Brazil has strongly opposed any proposals to forcibly displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, as reiterated by Brazilian President Luiz In¡cio Lula da Silva during a recent interview with Brazilian radio stations. President Lula expressed his disapproval of the idea, emphasizing the impracticality of such actions and the need for countries to respect the sovereignty of others.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, President Lula criticized the United States’ involvement in the situation, particularly pointing fingers at former US President Donald Trump. Lula highlighted the US’s role in supporting Israel’s actions in Gaza and questioned the rationale behind the proposal to occupy and redevelop the enclave. Lula stressed the importance of allowing Palestinians to remain in their homeland and urged global leaders to govern their own nations without interfering in the affairs of others.
President Lula’s comments come amidst widespread condemnation of Trump’s proposal to relocate Palestinians and transform Gaza into a developed area, dubbed as ‘the Riviera of the Middle East.’ This plan surfaced during a press conference in Washington with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, following a ceasefire that took effect on January 19. The ceasefire halted Israel’s devastating assault on Gaza, which resulted in over 47,500 Palestinian deaths and more than 111,000 injuries, as reported by the Palestinian Health Ministry.
