Jeddah: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held an extraordinary meeting of its Open-Ended Executive Committee at the level of Permanent Representatives at its headquarters in Jeddah to address developments in the Federal Republic of Somalia following Israel's recognition of the self-proclaimed 'Land of Somalia' as an independent state. The meeting saw the participation of more than 30 OIC member states.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the State of Palestine was represented by Ambassador Hadi Shibli, Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the OIC, and Deputy Permanent Representative, First Counselor Nassim Al-Za'anin. In a final statement, the participants condemned and rejected Israel's recognition of the self-proclaimed 'Land of Somalia', expressing their solidarity with Somalia and reaffirming the commitment of all OIC member states to support Somalia's security, stability, unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The meeting also focused on the Palestinian issue, adopting a paragraph that emphasized the rejection of any connection between Israel's recognition of 'Land of Somalia' and any attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian people. The OIC reiterated its rejection of any displacement efforts, whether within or outside Palestine, including the Gaza Strip, and condemned attempts to alter the geographic or demographic composition of the occupied Palestinian territory.
The statement issued by the OIC warned states against cooperating with Israeli displacement schemes, highlighting that such cooperation would violate international law and humanitarian law, potentially leading to legal consequences. The meeting also condemned the decisions of the Israeli Knesset against Palestinians and the annexation and settlement plans aimed at altering the status of the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem.
The OIC called for an end to the Israeli occupation, referring to international law, relevant UN resolutions, and international judicial opinions, including the dismantling of the colonial settlement system.
