Amman: King Abdullah II of Jordan emphasized the need for a unified Arab and Islamic stance and a collective effort to halt the unprecedented Israeli actions in Jerusalem, particularly concerning the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Noble Sanctuary.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, during a meeting at Al-Husseiniya Palace with the Arab Ministerial Committee, which is dedicated to confronting illegal Israeli policies in occupied Jerusalem, King Abdullah reiterated Jordan's commitment to its historical and legal role in safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites. The Hashemite custodianship underpins this commitment.
The meeting was attended by foreign ministers from Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Palestine, Egypt, and Morocco. The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, along with representatives from Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, and Malaysia, were also present.
Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II was in attendance as King Abdullah highlighted the risks of exploiting regional unrest to impose a new reality in Jerusalem. He warned of the potential for the conflict to widen due to ongoing Israeli escalations in the West Bank and attempts to annex lands and expand settlements.
The discussions, attended by Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, the King's chief advisor for religious and cultural affairs, emphasized the significance of implementing all phases of the comprehensive peace plan in the Gaza Strip. Key Jordanian officials present included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, and Director of the King's Office, Engineer Alaa Batayneh.
