Jerusalem: A Jewish supremacist Knesset member on Monday disrupted a Nakba commemoration event organized by Jafra – the Student Assembly at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, threatened and incited against participating students. Video footage showed Israeli Knesset member Zvi Sukkot of the ‘Religious Zionism’ party storming the hall where the event was being held and inciting against the participating students.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Jafra stated that the act of storming the Nakba-commemorating event and inciting against participants was a dangerous racist and provocative act. The group strongly condemned the assault and incitement against students who are Palestinian citizens of Israel. They emphasized that commemorating the Nakba is a political, national, and humanitarian right, asserting that attempts at intimidation and persecution will not silence the Palestinian narrative or prevent the expression of their identity and collective memory.
Jafra held the administration of the Hebrew University fully responsible for this repeated assault, criticizing the ongoing policy of ignoring incitement and violence against Palestinian students. They noted that the incident was part of an escalating campaign of incitement and persecution against Palestinian students in Israeli universities. Despite these challenges, Jafra affirmed that Palestinian students would continue commemorating the Nakba and defending their right to memory, identity, and belonging, in the face of increasing repression, persecution, and incitement.
