Israeli Government Approves Return of Extremist Ben Gvir as Minister

Jerusalem: The Israeli government has approved the return of extremist Itamar Ben-Gvir as Minister of National Security. A statement from the government indicated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal to reappoint Ben Gvir, following his resignation on January 19 in protest of a Gaza ceasefire agreement, was unanimously approved.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that the government also agreed to reappoint MK Amichai Eliyahu as Minister of Heritage and MK Yitzhak Vassirulov as Minister of the Negev and Galilee. The Knesset is scheduled to vote on Wednesday regarding these reappointments.

Ben-Gvir’s extremist party announced its reentry into the government after the Israeli occupation army intensified its actions in the Gaza Strip. The party had previously exited the government in objection to the ratified prisoner exchange and ceasefire agreement.

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority highlighted that this decision was made despite the Attorney General’s expressed opposition to Ben-Gvir’s return. The opposition is rooted in several petitions submitted to the Supreme Court, seeking Ben-Gvir’s removal due to alleged legal violations.
