Hebron: An Israeli colonist Wednesday attempted to run over a Palestinian in the southern occupied West Bank city of Hebron. Yasser Abu Markhiya, 52, reported that an Israeli colonist driving a car deliberately tried to run him over in the Hebron neighborhood of Tal Rumeida. According to Palestine news and Information Agency - WAFA, Abu Markhiya was involved in preparing for a children's entertainment activity organized by the 'Farah w Marah' children's program, scheduled to take place tomorrow, Thursday, at the Ibrahim al-Khalil Society in the neighborhood. He recounted that during the incident, the colonist's car collided with the cart he was pushing, resulting in injuries to his foot and damage to the cart, while the children in his company managed to evade the attack. The Palestinian neighborhood in question is located within the Israeli-controlled area of the old town, known as H2. This area houses several hundred extremist Jewish settlers and is characterized by heavy restrictions on Palestinian movem ent and activity, while settlers enjoy unfettered access and movement. Hebron, a city of significant religious importance due to the presence of the Ibrahimi Mosque, is home to approximately 160,000 Palestinian Muslims and about 800 Israeli settlers. These settlers reside in heavily guarded compounds under Israeli military protection. The city has been a focal point of tension, particularly after Israel expelled the only international monitors from Hebron, who were initially deployed following a massacre in 1994 by one of the settlers that led to their presence.
