Ramallah:Severe traffic congestion has plagued Ramallah and its surrounding areas since Sunday morning, following the closure and tightening of procedures at various checkpoints, entrances, and main roads around the city and the suburbs of Jerusalem. This situation has left thousands of vehicles stranded and significantly disrupted the movement of citizens in the region.
According to Palestine news and Information Agency, large numbers of vehicles have been stuck in long queues for hours, experiencing extreme difficulty in movement. The closures have affected key routes, making it challenging for citizens to enter or leave Ramallah and access surrounding villages, towns, and Jerusalem.
The traffic crisis is particularly severe at checkpoints and entrances surrounding Ramallah and the Jerusalem suburbs, such as Qalandiya, Jaba', Hizma, Zeitoun, Ein Sinya, Atara, Beit Iksa, and Sheikh Saad. The closure of these checkpoints has led to massive traffic jams and long queues, forcing citizens to wait for hours amidst severe congestion on roads leading to Ramallah and Jerusalem's outskirts.
These routes are vital for daily travel between Ramallah, Jerusalem, and neighboring villages and towns. The closures have thereby amplified the impact on citizens' movement, complicating access to workplaces, universities, schools, and hospitals. The movement of commercial and service vehicles has also been disrupted.
For hours, citizens have faced uncertainty about when the checkpoints might reopen or if procedures might ease, as the number of stranded vehicles continues to rise. These measures coincide with increasing restrictions in the West Bank, where military checkpoints and entrances are making travel more arduous, turning short trips into extended journeys.
