Jerusalem: Israeli occupation authorities forced two Palestinian citizens of occupied Jerusalem to demolish their own homes on Saturday in the neighborhoods of Jabal al-Mukabber and Umm Tuba, in order to avoid exorbitant fines imposed by the occupation.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Omar Walid Bashir, a resident of Jabal al-Mukabber, reported that the Israeli municipality compelled him to demolish a part of his home, which he shares with his wife and two daughters. The structure, which is a 35-square-meter room, has been their shelter for some time.
In a similar case, another Palestinian resident was forced to demolish his home in the neighborhood of Umm Tuba, south of Jerusalem. The home, measuring 110 square meters, is where eight family members live.
The Israeli policy of forcing Palestinians to demolish their own homes is part of broader efforts to displace the Palestinian population in East Jerusalem and prevent construction in certain areas. These actions have led to widespread hardship for Palestinian families who face mounting pressures and financial burdens from the occupation authorities.
