Umm tuba: Israeli occupation authorities on Monday compelled a Palestinian resident to demolish his own home in the town of Umm Tuba, located southeast of occupied Jerusalem.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Jerusalem Governorate reported that Ali Khalil Abu Tir was forced by Israeli authorities to self-demolish his residence. Should he have refused, crews from the Israeli occupation municipality would have carried out the demolition and charged him with the substantial costs associated with it. Additionally, the municipality imposed a financial penalty of 80,000 shekels.
The demolished home housed seven individuals who have now been displaced as a result of this action. This incident is part of a broader Israeli policy of self-demolitions targeting Palestinian residents in the occupied Jerusalem area. Under this policy, homeowners are coerced into demolishing their houses themselves, or alternatively, they face bearing the demolition costs and fines imposed by the authorities.
