Berlin: Macit Karaahmetoglu, a deputy member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Parliament and a lawmaker from the Social Democratic Party (SPD), expressed his support for a call by Palestine's Ambassador to Germany, Laith Arafeh, for Germany to recognize the State of Palestine.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Karaahmetoglu highlighted that a majority of countries worldwide, including European nations such as France, Spain, and the United Kingdom, have already recognized the State of Palestine. He suggested that Germany's recognition would act as an effective measure in advancing the two-state solution.
Karaahmetoglu emphasized the necessity of this recognition in light of ongoing Israeli settlement activities under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government, which aims to establish new facts on the ground as a precursor to annexing Palestinian territories in the West Bank and further dividing the region geographically.
The German lawmaker reiterated his commitment to these objectives, expressing gratitude to Ambassador Arafeh for fostering a candid dialogue and a relationship built on mutual trust.
