Gaza: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has issued a warning that the controversial plan to forcibly displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip is still being considered. He emphasized that Cairo views this as a 'red line' for Egypt, as well as for Arab and Islamic countries, and will firmly oppose any such actions.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Abdelatty, during a press interview on Saturday evening, stated that so-called 'voluntary displacement' cannot be deemed voluntary if conditions are deliberately created to make life in Gaza unlivable. He argued that forcing Palestinians to leave under these circumstances constitutes coercion, violating international law and the rights of those living under occupation.
The Egyptian foreign minister reiterated that Cairo 'will not accept or allow' any displacement, highlighting Egypt's commitment to ensuring Palestinians remain on their land and rejecting any attempts to uproot them. He also expressed concern over the escalating situation in the occupied West Bank, citing increased Israeli violations against Palestinians as evidence of 'silent annexation' and 'de facto annexation.'
Abdelatty cautioned that the continuation of such policies threatens the remaining Palestinian territories and endangers the prospects of establishing a Palestinian state and achieving a two-state solution. He underscored that the Palestinian cause is fundamentally about the people's right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state, asserting that 'the use of force, no matter how great, will not achieve sustainable security for Israel or the region' if Palestinian rights remain unrecognized.
