Indian wells: Filipino tennis player Alexandra Eala has been eliminated from the WTA 1000 BNP Paribas Open following a decisive loss to Czech Republic's Linda Noskova, with set scores of 2-6, 0-6 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California, USA.
According to Philippines News Agency, the 14th-seeded Noskova delivered seven aces to end the match against Eala, who is ranked No. 32 in the world, after just 55 minutes of play. This victory advanced Noskova to the quarterfinals, where she will face Australian Talia Gibson. Gibson reached the quarterfinals by defeating No. 7 seed Italian Jasmine Paolini, with a match score of 7-5, 2-6, 6-1.
Top seed Aryna Sabalenka also progressed to the quarterfinals by defeating No. 16 seed Japanese player Naomi Osaka, with a score of 6-2, 6-4. Sabalenka's next opponent will be No. 10 seed Canadian Victoria Mboko, who won against No. 6 seed American Amanda Anisimova, 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles competition, Eala, alongside her American partner Iva Jovic, faced a first-round defeat against American Hailey Baptiste and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, with a scoreline of 2-6, 2-6.
Eala's match with Noskova was set up after she posted a victory over American Coco Gauff, who had to retire from their match due to a left arm injury after Eala led with scores of 6-2, 2-0. The pair had previously met in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 Dubai Tennis Championships last month, where Gauff emerged victorious with scores of 6-0, 6-2.
