Gaza: Armed Israeli colonists on Wednesday chased Palestinian shepherds in Khirbet Khashm al-Karm of Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron, according to an activist. Osama Makhamreh reported that the colonists attempted to steal the shepherds' flock before occupation forces intervened, resulting in the arrest of a Palestinian resident who confronted the assailants.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the incident in Masafer Yatta was not isolated. Colonists also broke into an agricultural shed in the Shaab al-Batam area, stealing its furniture, belongings, and agricultural equipment. In another instance, colonists carried out provocative tours in Wadi al-Rakhim, desecrating graves and releasing livestock into groves, which further heightened tensions.
Makhamreh noted that the situation escalated when gun-toting soldiers forced a resident in the Huwwara area, east of Yatta, to dismantle a protective fence around his dwelling. This structure was intended to prevent colonists from trespassing with their livestock.
Violence by colonists against Palestinians and their property is a routine occurrence in the West Bank, with perpetrators rarely facing prosecution by Israeli authorities. Such acts of violence include arson of property and mosques, stone-throwing, and destruction of crops and olive trees, alongside attacks on vulnerable homes.
The presence of approximately 1 million Israeli colonists living in the West Bank and East Jerusalem is considered a violation of international law, exacerbating the ongoing conflict in the region.
