Ramallah:Two Palestinian female detainees are reportedly suffering from severe health issues due to alleged medical neglect while being held in Israeli prisons. Hanaa Mohammad Hassan al-Bidq, detained since September 7, 2025, has experienced worsening health conditions, including hypothyroidism, without receiving necessary medical care.
According to Palestine news & Information Agency – WAFA – English, al-Bidq communicated to her lawyer that she requires regular treatment and medical oversight for her thyroid condition, which has been neglected during her detention. Despite needing regular blood tests and endocrinologist consultations every six months, she has not been provided with the required medical attention. Furthermore, she has reportedly lost 42 kilograms due to a starvation policy and has been suffering from scabies since July.
Al-Bidq also recounted an incident on October 8, where female detainees, including herself, were allegedly assaulted during a raid at Damon Prison by Israeli Prison Service special forces. The detainees were reportedly handcuffed, blindfolded, physically beaten, and subjected to gas exposure and verbal abuse.
In addition to al-Bidq's case, detainee Saja Daraghmeh, held since January 22, 2026, is suffering from migraines, impaired vision, and scabies, with a lack of access to medical treatment. Daraghmeh reported severe pain and constant itching due to untreated scabies.
The conditions for female detainees at Damon Prison are reportedly harsh, with limited and poor-quality food and restricted outdoor exercise time. Currently, there are 82 female detainees at Damon Prison, along with Bushra al-Taweel, who is in solitary confinement outside the prison.
