Israeli Authorities Detain 70 Palestinians in West Bank Raids, Reports PPS

Hebron:Ramallah Around 70 Palestinians have been detained by Israeli authorities since Friday across the West Bank, as reported by the Palestinian Prisoners' Society (PPS). The detentions are part of an ongoing offensive by Israeli forces, which has included intensified raids and abuses against Palestinians.

According to Palestine news & Information Agency – WAFA – English, the PPS stated that the Israeli authorities launched a large-scale military assault on the Hebron Governorate on Friday. The society's monitoring indicated that detentions occurred across various West Bank governorates between Friday and early Saturday, with some detainees subsequently released, while field interrogations continue.

The PPS highlighted that most of the detainees are former prisoners who have previously served time in Israeli jails. Raids targeted homes in Hebron and other governorates, with forced displacements and the conversion of homes into military barracks for interrogations. The homes of former prisoners and those of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces were particularly targeted in these operations.

Furthermore, the PPS noted that detainees who were released experienced assaults, threats, and intimidation. Leaflets with threats were distributed, indicating an attempt to intimidate and restrict the rights of Palestinians. The society emphasized that these actions are not temporary but part of a broader policy of collective punishment and an extension of the apartheid system in the West Bank.

The PPS recorded more than 26,000 arrests in the West Bank since the onset of the conflict, urging families to contact relevant Palestinian legal entities for assistance in following up on detainee cases.
