Guterres Urges Permanent Ceasefire and Relief Efforts in Gaza Strip

Gaza:UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called for a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and emphasized the need for the large-scale, unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid. In a recent press statement, Guterres highlighted the severe suffering experienced by Palestinians due to ongoing hostilities in the region.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Guterres cited data from UN agencies indicating that Israeli attacks have resulted in over 74,000 deaths, including 20,000 children, with more than 100,000 individuals injured. The entire population of the Gaza Strip, approximately 2.1 million people, has been displaced, and significant destruction has occurred across the area.

He acknowledged that the ceasefire initiated in October 2025 had mitigated some of the hardships but had not yet achieved security, sufficient humanitarian aid, or a viable path toward recovery and peace. Guterres urged all parties to fully adhere to their obligations and progress to the next phase of the ceasefire, as outlined by UN Security Council Resolution 2803.
