Ireland Football Team Urged to Boycott Israel Match

Gaza:According to the Irish Sun, the 'Stop the Game' campaign has called on the Republic of Ireland national football team, along with their Icelandic coach, Heimir Hallgrmsson, to boycott an upcoming match against Israel. The fixture is part of the third round of the UEFA Nations League and is scheduled to take place on Sunday in Serbia.

The campaign's letter to the coach and players was signed by several League of Ireland supporters. It urged the team not to participate in the match as a show of solidarity with Palestine, stating that playing would conflict with the views held by the majority of Irish citizens. The campaign referenced opinion polls indicating that over 70% of people in Ireland oppose the two matches against Israel.

The letter also highlighted Ireland's stance on Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip. It noted the Irish government's support for international legal proceedings and its participation alongside South Africa in a case before the International Court of Justice, concerning allegations of genocide.
