Gaza:Norway announced an additional 125 million Norwegian kroner (approximately $13.2 million) in aid to Palestine, to be channeled through the United Nations and the World Bank, including budget support for the Palestinian public sector.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency €œ WAFA, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide emphasized the heightened need for international support for Palestine, as Gaza continues to endure the aftermath of conflict and severe restrictions affecting access to food, clean water, electricity, and healthcare.
The Norwegian government highlighted ongoing challenges in Gaza's reconstruction efforts, citing extensive destruction, resource shortages, and uncertainties about future developments. Eide noted that Norway is advocating for an expedited process of early recovery and reconstruction, underscoring the necessity of increased humanitarian aid.
Eide also urged for the implementation of the 20-point peace plan adopted by the UN Security Council last year, emphasizing the importance of Palestinian ownership in the reconstruction efforts.
Norway recognized the State of Palestine in 2024 and currently chairs the international donor group for the Palestinians.
