Nablus: Egypt welcomed Ireland's approval of legislation banning the import of goods from illegal Israeli settlements and the completion of the necessary constitutional and legislative procedures for its enactment.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement viewing this legislative move as a significant stance reflecting a commitment to international law and United Nations resolutions. The ministry emphasized that the legislation underlines a rejection of illegal Israeli settlement activities, which infringe upon the rights of the Palestinian people and jeopardize the prospects for a just and lasting peace.
The statement further urged European Union member states and the broader international community to adopt similar legal and practical measures. It called for actions to ensure they do not directly or indirectly support or sustain Israeli settlements.
Reiterating its unwavering support for the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, Egypt stressed that achieving security and stability in the Middle East necessitates ending the Israeli occupation. The statement emphasized the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
