Ramallah: Yasser Abbas, a member of the Fatah Central Committee and Commissioner for Foreign Relations, has called upon international institutions, civil society organizations, and supporters of the Palestinian cause to address the rising attacks by Israeli settlers on unarmed Palestinians.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency, Abbas underscored the alarming increase in settler violence. He pointed to a recent massacre in Tell village, executed by settlers with the backing of Israeli occupation forces, followed by further assaults on Palestinians across the occupied territories. He warned that the absence of legal accountability for these actions emboldens the Israeli government to persist with its violations and expansionist policies.
Abbas emphasized that the violence by settlers and the policies of the Israeli government, including actions in the Gaza Strip, aim to solidify colonization and forcibly displace Palestinians. He highlighted that these actions violate international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.
He urged the international community, including the United Nations and the European Union, to fulfill their legal and moral obligations by taking effective measures to stop the violence and provide protection for Palestinians. Abbas also called for the activation of accountability mechanisms to prosecute those responsible for the crimes under international law, describing these acts as crimes against humanity.
Abbas reiterated the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
