Amnesty International Criticizes Israel’s Evacuation Orders in Lebanon

Beirut: The Israeli military's repeated use of mass 'evacuation' and no-return orders to displace hundreds of thousands of people in Lebanon violates international humanitarian law, according to Amnesty International. The organization has highlighted these actions as a significant breach of legal standards.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Amnesty International stated that in southern Lebanon, these orders serve as a tool to forcibly displace civilians from their homes. Tens of thousands have been prevented from returning, which the organization views as unlawful transfer. This act is considered a grave breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention and amounts to a war crime.

Amnesty International reported that in 2026, the Israeli military significantly increased its use of mass displacement tactics in Lebanon. This expansion subjected more residents to unlawful evacuation orders, while also advancing plans to destroy homes and civilian infrastructure, leading to depopulation in large parts of southern Lebanon.
