Lebanese Prime Minister Receives President Abbas’ Special Representative

Beirut: Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam received on Friday President Mahmoud Abbas' special representative and member of the Fatah Central Committee, Yasser Abbas, along with the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Lebanon, Mohammad Al-Asaad. The meeting was also attended by the head of the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee, Ambassador Ramez Dimashkieh.

According to Palestine news and Information Agency, during the meeting, Abbas conveyed President Mahmoud Abbas' greetings to Prime Minister Salam, reaffirming the State of Palestine's support for Lebanon's security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He emphasized Palestine's commitment to strengthening the fraternal and historic ties between the two countries.

The discussions covered the general situation in Lebanon and the conditions of Palestinian refugees in camps and communities. This included addressing the repercussions of displacement from camps in southern Lebanon and the resulting humanitarian and living challenges. The dialogue focused on strengthening cooperation and joint coordination on issues of mutual concern.

The meeting highlighted the importance of maintaining Lebanese-Palestinian dialogue and coordination, as well as advancing the implementation of existing understandings. This includes the plan for the handover of Palestinian weapons in accordance with agreed mechanisms, aligned with the principle of extending Lebanese state sovereignty across its entire territory.

Abbas reiterated the Palestinian leadership's support for this process and its commitment to full cooperation with the Lebanese state to promote security and stability, serving the common interests of both peoples. Prime Minister Salam expressed appreciation for the Palestinian stances supporting Lebanon and emphasized the importance of continued coordination and cooperation on shared issues.
