UN Human Rights Office Declares Gaza Strip as Deadliest Place for Journalists

Gaza: The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has declared the Gaza Strip as the deadliest place in the world for journalists.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the announcement was made in a post on X during World Press Freedom Day. The OHCHR emphasized the urgent need for global action beyond mere words of condemnation and solidarity. It highlighted the necessity for accountability, protection of journalists, and the guarantee of independent access for international media.

UN Human Rights Chief Volker Trk expressed concern over the situation, describing the ongoing conflict in Gaza as a perilous environment for media personnel. The Office has verified the killing of nearly 300 journalists since October 2023, with many others sustaining injuries.
