Trump Committed to Securing Ceasefire, Settlement for Ukraine War ‘As Soon As Possible’: Secretary of State

Paris: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that President Donald Trump is committed to securing a ceasefire and negotiated settlement to the Russia-Ukraine war 'as soon as possible.'

According to Anadolu Agency, Rubio emphasized this point on Friday in a statement on US social media company X during the last day of a two-day G7 foreign ministers' meeting near Paris. "Today at the G7 I reiterated that President Trump is committed to reaching a ceasefire and negotiated settlement to the Russia-Ukraine war as soon as possible," Rubio conveyed in his statement.

Rubio's attendance at the meeting was aimed at discussing shared security concerns and opportunities for cooperation, with the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the Middle East being key focus areas, as stated by the State Department earlier. The meeting served as a platform for global leaders to align on pressing international issues.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha also participated in the meeting and shared on X that he met with Rubio on the sidelines to discuss Washington's critical role in advancing peace efforts. Sybiha described Kyiv's proposals for peace as 'realistic and doable,' stressing that increased pressure on Moscow is essential for ending the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

In addition to the Ukraine conflict, the discussions between Sybiha and Rubio included developments in the Middle East. Sybiha highlighted Ukraine's contribution to Gulf countries in countering Iranian drones, showcasing the nation's role as a significant security partner.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry noted that the main topics of the two-day meeting were focused on further support for Ukraine, increased sanctions pressure on Russia, and Ukraine's support for partners in the Middle East, underscoring the multi-faceted nature of the international discussions.
