Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Friday held separate phone calls with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, and US officials. During the discussions, Fidan and his counterparts focused on the latest developments in the region and explored efforts to bring an end to the ongoing war.
According to Anadolu Agency, these diplomatic engagements come as tensions in the region have intensified following a joint offensive by the US and Israel on Iran on February 28. The offensive resulted in the death of more than 1,340 people, including Iran's then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response, Tehran has launched a series of drone and missile strikes against Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries that host US military forces. These retaliatory actions have led to casualties, infrastructure damage, and significant disruptions to global markets and aviation.
The Turkish foreign minister's discussions with his Iranian, Pakistani, and Egyptian counterparts, as well as US officials, underscore the critical need for diplomatic efforts to alleviate the hostilities that have further destabilized the region. The calls reflect Turkey's proactive approach in seeking solutions to the conflict and mitigating its far-reaching impacts.
