Trkiye’s Steel Dome Air Defense System to Meet All National Security Needs

Ankara: Trkiye's domestically developed Steel Dome air defense system is being enhanced to address all of the country's security requirements, according to Roketsan CEO Murat Ikinci. He stated that the system, an evolving air defense architecture, will be continuously upgraded with new capabilities and technologies to counter emerging threats.

According to Anadolu Agency, Ikinci emphasized that Roketsan is advancing mass production across various defense systems, including anti-tank, cruise, anti-ship, ballistic, and air defense missiles. He highlighted the significant role of ballistic missiles within the company's portfolio, noting ongoing production and deliveries of both the TAYFUN ballistic missile and the SOM cruise missile.

Ikinci mentioned that Roketsan is operating around the clock, with production activities proceeding without interruption. The company aims to expand its production capacity rapidly through new investments, driven by current regional conditions necessitating such developments.

He stressed the value of domestically developed air defense systems, describing Steel Dome as one of Trkiye's most critical defense projects. The system is a joint development by Aselsan, Roketsan, and TUBITAK SAGE, with all components produced domestically, providing the capability to manufacture necessary missiles, radar systems, and battery systems as needed.

From Ikinci's perspective, Steel Dome is a crucial defense program for Trkiye, with a need for increased production capacity. He underlined the ongoing efforts to accelerate production and the complexity of air defense, noting that no country can claim to have perfected the system entirely. Continuous enhancements are being made to adapt to changing threat profiles.

He also pointed out that Roketsan has numerous ongoing projects, with several systems, including air defense and air-to-air missiles, as well as new ballistic missiles, set for gradual introduction starting in 2026. Steel Dome serves as Trkiye's integrated layered air defense architecture, combining radar, missile, electronic warfare, and command systems to safeguard airspace against multi-altitude and multi-range threats.
