Gaza city: Palestinian prisoners held at the Israeli Ramon detention center, particularly those who are ill, are enduring extremely harsh conditions.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs released a report after its lawyer visited the detention center, highlighting significant health issues among the prisoners. One such case is that of Dhafer Rimawi, a 34-year-old detainee from Beit Rima near Ramallah, serving a 32-year sentence. Rimawi suffers from a thyroid disorder and has yet to undergo scheduled blood tests, which were supposed to take place in November.
Rimawi reported feeling constant cold due to his illness, yet he is only provided with one blanket. He also noted the prevalence of skin diseases among prisoners, with foul odors from boils affecting many detainees. He described severe overcrowding, with each room holding between 10 and 12 prisoners, despite having only six beds, forcing others to sleep on the floor with minimal bedding.
Another case mentioned is that of Mohammad Kleib, a 29-year-old from Haris in the central West Bank. Kleib suffers from torn knee cartilage and irregular heartbeats but has not received treatment despite medical examinations.
The commission further detailed the harsh conditions, including locked sections and rooms, lack of communication among prisoners, and daily instances of insults, beatings, starvation, and denial of medical care.
