Ramallah: President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas received a phone call from Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides on Sunday evening, during which they discussed the latest political developments and the situation in Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as well as ways to achieve peace in accordance with international legitimacy.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas expressed his gratitude for the call and highlighted the strong ties of friendship between the two nations. He acknowledged Cyprus' political support for Palestinian rights to freedom and independence and its commitment to the two-state solution as per international law.
President Abbas emphasized the significance of Cyprus' upcoming presidency of the European Union and the role it can play. He also conveyed appreciation for Cyprus' humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Furthermore, President Abbas reiterated the State of Palestine's commitment to the plan of U.S. President Donald Trump, focusing on the execution of its second phase which includes disarmament by Hamas, withdrawal of occupation forces, and reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip.
The President underscored the necessity to halt Israeli violations in the West Bank, especially the cessation of colonial expansion and the release of withheld Palestinian funds. He reaffirmed Palestine's readiness to assume responsibilities in the Gaza Strip and its dedication to working with international partners to implement the two-state solution, aiming for peace and coexistence with Israel.
