Ramallah: Minister of National Economy Mohammad Al-Amour called on Germany to recognize the State of Palestine, emphasizing that such recognition represents a genuine investment in the two-state solution and in reviving the political horizon for a just peace.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, this appeal was made during a speech delivered by Al-Amour on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, at a ceremony organized by the Representative Office of the Federal Republic of Germany to the State of Palestine, led by Ambassador Anke Schlimm, in celebration of the German Unity Day.
Al-Amour highlighted that Germany's recognition of the State of Palestine would send a strong message of hope to the Palestinian people and serve as a significant step toward ending the occupation and realizing an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
At the outset of his address, the minister conveyed greetings and congratulations from President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa to the German government and people on their National Unity Day. He noted that the German reunification experience is a profound source of inspiration for the Palestinian people in their pursuit of freedom, unity, and sovereignty.
Al-Amour also urged Germany to support international efforts aimed at addressing the Palestinian economic crisis and to expedite the disbursement of the pound 30 million emergency German contribution. He further called for Germany's active participation in relief, recovery, and reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip, in line with the Palestinian national and UN-supported plan that emphasizes the unity of Palestinian land. He stressed that reconstruction is not merely a physical process but also a means of restoring trust and hope for the future.
In conclusion, the minister underscored the importance of Germany remaining a consistent and principled voice in upholding international law and human rights, and in rejecting all unilateral measures that contravene these principles, including colonial settlement expansion and land confiscation.
Ambassador Anke Schlimm, representing Germany, remarked that the end of the war in Gaza presents an opportunity for reconciliation and affirmed Germany's continued commitment to the two-state solution.
