Gaza city: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) announced that the cost of rebuilding the Gaza Strip is estimated at around 70 billion dollars. Jaco Cilliers, the UNDP Special Representative of the Administrator for the Palestinian people, highlighted the extent of the destruction in Gaza, describing it as almost beyond comprehension.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Cilliers emphasized the efforts made by the UNDP in assessing, removing, and recycling over 81,000 tons of debris, which is equivalent to 3,100 truckloads. He pointed out that Gaza is one of the most devastated areas globally but remains determined to recover. He stressed the importance of all parties respecting the ceasefire to facilitate this recovery.
During a media briefing, Cilliers reiterated that the current assessment indicates a requirement of 70 billion dollars for the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza. He also noted the presence of approximately 55 million tons of rubble in the Gaza Strip, which is comparable to filling up 13 Great Pyramids of Giza.
