Sharm el-sheikh: President Mahmoud Abbas met with French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of their participation in the peace summit in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh on Monday. The two leaders engaged in discussions on several pressing issues related to the ongoing conflict and humanitarian situation in the region.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the discussions between President Abbas and President Macron primarily focused on the ceasefire agreement and the facilitation of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. They also addressed the completion of the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and the transition of full responsibilities to the State of Palestine.
In addition to these topics, the leaders deliberated on the prevention of West Bank annexation, the halting of colonial activities, and the recovery of Palestinian funds withheld by Israel. These funds are crucial for the Palestinian government to effectively carry out its responsibilities toward its citizens.
President Abbas expressed his gratitude to President Macron for France's recognition of the State of Palestine. He also acknowledged France's role, alongside Saudi Arabia, in co-chairing the high-level international conference aimed at resolving the Palestinian issue and advancing the two-state solution.
